Innovation that Focuses on the Destination
The system of innovation
So much of the American landscape has become haphazard. Our time is cluttered and filled with choices. Our streets are chaotic as signage bids for bigger, louder, glitzier. Even our families are cluttered with choices in blended families, far-flung geographies, communication options of phone, email, mail, travel and web journals :-)
Clutter is one monster to tame with innovation. Creative people have lots of ideas and sometimes restraint is the better party of valor, as my mother used to tell me.
Why is clutter on my mind? I'm cleaning my office on this long holiday weekend. It's my personal declaration of independence. After months of researching for my next book and website, my stacks are claiming stacks of their own. Yesterday it overwhelmed me and last night I began the filtering process.
It's hard throwing away resource materials I collected for examples, samples and quotes in a field as diverse as innovation. But less is better. If I synthesize the concepts I learned as I wove my way through the chaos, I will be able to share with you the essence of the first tool for effective innovation: FOCUS ON THE DESTINATION.
